Drug sweeps done at Mohonasen High School, Draper Middle School
April 6, 2009
This morning, members of the New York State Police and their drug dogs—along with the Rotterdam Police Department—visited Mohonasen High School and Draper Middle School to do a sweep of the hallways and lockers. The dogs are trained to find illegal drugs, such as marijuana.
While the dogs and police officers were doing the sweeps, the buildings were put into a shelter-in-place. This means that business as usual continued inside all of the classrooms, however no one was allowed in the hallways.
Both schools have been performing these sweeps for the last few years.
“This continued partnership with school officials and local/state police departments creates an atmosphere in which students know that the presence of drugs in schools is not acceptable," High School Principal David Collins said. "Students should feel comfortable knowing that the school is doing everything it can to maintain a healthy school environment.”
Any student who is found to have illegal drugs or substances in his/her locker will be disciplined according to the Mohonasen High School Code of Conduct and state and federal laws. For additional information about the sweeps, please contact Mohonasen’s School Resource Officer Mike Rumbaugh at 356-8300.
