High
school weight room gets face lift as sophomore works to become eagle
scout
Feb. 26, 2010
Mohonasen sophomore Justin Fuschino plays football and swims, which is why he spends a lot of time in the high school weight room. And when he noticed that the room was a bit dull, he decided to paint it for his Eagle Scout Project -- one of the final steps this lifelong Cub/Boy Scout needs to take to become an Eagle Scout.
"I thought it would boost people's spirits and make them work harder," he said.
With the help of his fellow Boy Scouts Nate Resila and Dustin and Dylan Reger, Fuschino painted slogans like "We > Me" and "No Spectators" on the different walls. He also painted a large "The Mighty Warriors," which he says he is most proud of.
Fuschino
became a Cub Scout at the age of five and since then he says he has
done more than 200 hours of community service around the region.
"I like helping other people out and spending time with friends while I'm helping people out," he said, adding that for the last decade he has been working toward becoming an Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank within the Boy Scout ranks. He has a few things left to do, but expects to reach this rank by the end of the school year.
One of his biggest inspirations, Fuschino said, has been Resila -- a Mohonasen senior -- who is also an Eagle Scout.
"He's a great guy and I thought that if he can be an Eagle Scout, so can I," he said.
Fuschino added that he wants to thank his Boy Scout Troop, #357, and all of the adult leaders andscouts who helped with much of the major work needed to start and complete this project.
