Mohonasen and looked forward to life after high
school at the 49th graduation ceremony on Saturday,
June 28 at Proctor's Theatre.

Mohonasen has required reading assignments for
incoming students, grades 1-12. Get a head start on

about summer school programs, driver education,
enrichment classes, sports camps, swim programs,

note that Bookmaking 101, Enhancing Literacy Skills
Through Yoga and Dramatic Figure Sculpture summer enrichment

Pinewood
playground nearly complete; Community celebrates
at ribbon cutting ceremony
Thanks to community members,
local businesses, and families, Pinewood raised over
$80,000 to build a new playground for its students.
On June 13, the school held a ribbon cutting
ceremony to celebrate all of the efforts of the
community over the past three years.
As the new Principal at Pinewood, I would like to
give special thanks to the Playground Committee, Dr.
Michael Johnson, former Pinewood Principal, and Todd
Shafer, Pinewood's building leader, said Pinewood
Principal Michele Hunter.

Pinewood
community celebrates 19th annual Flag Day A
sea of red, white and blue filled the Pinewood
parking lot at the school's 19th annual Flag Day
Celebration on Friday, June 13.
The Pinewood band, orchestra and Fresh Fiddlers
performed at the special event. The audience enjoyed
listening to the patriotic essay contest winners
Joshua DuBois, Austen Blanchard, and Nikolas Cotugno,
as well as guest speaker "Betsy Ross." View

Four students nominated for outstanding performance Each
year the Schenectady Light Opera Company awards area
high school students for excellence in performance
arts. Four Mohonasen students were nominated for
"outstanding performance" in Mohon Masque's
production of "The Music Man."

Math
Olympiad provides enrichment activities for Pinewood
students
This year, Math Olympiad provided enrichment at all
three grade levels in Pinewood. Third graders met
after school with Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Wager, and
fourth and fifth graders met before school with Ms.
Bromley and parent volunteers.

SADD
students raise awareness
about how drinking and driving affects everyone In
the United States, someone dies in a drinking and
driving accident every 20 minutes. Throughout the
day on June 5, a Mohonasen students name was
announced over the loudspeaker every 20 minutes as a
symbol of the destructive decision of drinking and
driving.

Draper named
"high
performing/gap closing"
school for second year in a row The
New York State Education Department recently
recognized Draper Middle School as one of the
state's "high performing/gap closing" schools for
the second year in a row. This means that Draper met
all applicable state standards for English Language
Arts (ELA) during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 school
years and also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

School budget approved and
two board members elected On May 20, by
a margin of 1094 to 591, residents approved a
$41,935,614 budget for the 2008-09 school year. The
approved budget calls for a $1,638,244 spending
increase over the current year budget, which
translates into a 4.065 percent budget increase with
an estimated tax levy increase of 2.60 percent.

Voters
approve $21.8
million capital project
By a vote
of 1,369 in favor to 160 opposed, residents
overwhelming approved a
$21,881,000 capital improvement project on
October 16. Read more here about what this project will

children in district? The Mohonasen
Central School District is taking a census of all
school district residents who have children under
age 5 in order to plan for
future student enrollment in our schools. Please

Fall sports physcials
Sports physicals will be given on Wednesday, August
13 at 8 a.m. in the Draper Middle School nurse's
office and on Monday, August 18 at 8 a.m. in the
high school nurse's office for those students who
wish to come.

Board adopts basic 2008-09 school calendar
On Monday, April 21, the Mohonasen Board of
Education adopted the basic 2008-09 school year
calendar.
