Board of Education adopts proposed 2025-26 school budget


During its regular meeting on March 24, the Mohonasen Board of Education voted to adopt the proposed $71.7 million budget for the 2025-26 school year.

The proposed spending plan represents an increase of $3.9 million over the current year. The budget proposal includes a tax levy increase of 2.6%, which is at the district’s state-mandated limit. As a result, a simple majority of voters is needed for approval.

District residents will vote on the proposed school budget on Tuesday, May 20, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Board of Education Election

Voters will elect two members to the Mohonasen Board of Education to serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2025. Interested candidates should contact the district clerk, Kate Barry, at kbarry@mohonasen.org or 518.356.8210, to request a candidate petition. Petitions must be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. on April 21.

Budget Hearing/Meet the Board Candidates

All are welcome to attend the Meet the Candidates night that will be held on Monday, May 12, at 6 p.m. in the high school LGI. The public budget hearing on the proposed budget will follow.

Can I vote early or by absentee ballot?

Absentee ballot voting is available. The new Early Mail Voter Act effective Jan. 1, 2024, also allows for early voting via mail without any reasons needed for voting early. You must fill out an application to vote by early voting or absentee ballot. There are separate applications for early voting and absentee ballots, but the application process and deadlines are the same for both.
