Bradt students become published authors; “We’re Wild About Animals”

Students in Amber Newman’s first-grade class have become published authors through a national student publishing program, Studentreasures Publishing. The students wrote and illustrated “We’re Wild About Animals,” a book about their favorite animals.

The idea for their book started when they began learning about persuasive writing. Students decided they wanted to write a book to persuade their readers to see why their favorite animal is the best. They researched facts about their chosen animal and began the publishing process.

Students planned, wrote, proofread and revised their work using a publishing kit. They then created illustrations for each one of their animals. The class worked hard for two weeks to create the finished product.

After the book was published, Newman invited the students’ families to celebrate with a publishing party. Visitors joined the students at Bradt for a read-a-loud outside in the sunshine.
