The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) developed a program called the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant, which will provide students at the elementary schools with additional fruits and vegetables between breakfast and lunch.
Mohonasen has been awarded the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant through USDA for the 2024- 2025 school year.
The USDA’s goal is to increase child consumption of fruits and vegetables, making healthy eating habits a normal part of adult life. The school breakfast and lunch program requires students to take a fruit or vegetable with each meal to familiarize them and get in the habit of eating a fruit and vegetable with each meal.
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides all children at Bradt and Pinewood free fresh fruit or vegetables as a snack two days a week starting this fall.
The FFVP grant’s goal is to expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption and make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health.
