Draper students engrave Halloween lanterns in technology club

Students in Draper’s after-school Tech Club combined creativity with cutting-edge technology to craft one-of-a-kind, laser-engraved Halloween lanterns. Led by technology instructors Steve Leader and Mark Lajeunesse, the students learned both design skills and the basics of laser engraving.

The session began with students sketching spooky designs on paper, envisioning what would later come to life on the lanterns. Then, using digital design software, they translated their sketches into digital files compatible with the school’s laser engravers.

Once their designs were ready, students took turns carefully operating the laser engraver, watching as each line was etched onto the lanterns with precision. Safety protocols were strictly followed, ensuring the young creators learned about the responsibility that comes with handling advanced equipment.
