The Mohonasen physical education department, in partnership with the Rotterdam Police Department and the Mohonasen Foundation for Excellence, gave every kindergartener their very own bicycle helmet. The helmet handout program has been running for over 20 years at Mohonasen, highlighting the district’s long-standing commitment to student safety and community collaboration.
Two members from the Rotterdam Police Department, alongside the district’s school resource officer, Brandon DeLuke, came to Bradt to pass out the helmets. Each student was given a helmet of their choice and then sized to make sure the helmet fit properly.
This is the first year the program is being done in conjunction with the “Learn to Ride” program, a program created by the Mohonasen Physical Education department to teach every kindergarten how to safely ride a bike. The integration of the helmet handout with bike safety lessons provides a comprehensive approach to fostering lifelong habits of safety and active living among young students.
