MHS Art Department participates in Empty Bowls Fundraiser

Mohonasen partnered with the Rotterdam Community Center (RCC) for their first Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

Each guest received a handmade bowl crafted by Mohonasen art students and sampled 19 different soups donated by local restaurants and community members. The Bellevue Cafe, Tops American Grill, Broadway Lunch, Blake 925 Deli, Chez Nous, LaGioia Italian Deli and Bagels and Bakes donated to the event.

The event sold 83 tickets and raised over $3,100 for the RCC.  Mohonasen art teachers Tina Mathieu, Allison Vaughan and Mike York were instrumental in the success of the fundraiser, along with the support of volunteers, including students from Mohonasen and Schalmont High Schools.

Honorary committee members included Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, whose son Michael prepared a soup, Sue Lintner of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Arthur Butler, director of the Schenectady County Human Rights Commission, and Tina Mathieu, art teacher at Mohonasen High School.
