This will be Karandy’s ninth year in education and his second as an assistant principal. This past year, he was the assistant principal at the William H. Barton Intermediate School in Queensbury. Before that, he was a high school special education teacher specializing in social studies at Queensbury High School.

Before his time at Queensbury, he worked at Saratoga Central Catholic for one year as a global studies teacher and in Schenectady with the ATLAS tutoring program during his time in grad school.

Outside of the classroom, he shares his love for wrestling with students, “I have coached and been involved with the section 2 wrestling community for over a decade,” said Karandy.

After being at the intermediate level, Karandy is excited to be back in a high school. “I really love working with high school students and can’t wait to get started,” he said.

Karandy also has a deep connection to Rotterdam. His father is from the area, graduating from Mohonasen in 1982.

“While I went to school in Duanesburg, much of my childhood was spent in Rotterdam with my cousins. Rotterdam is such a wonderful community that I am ecstatic to come home to,” said Karandy.

Mohonasen High School Principal Craig Chandler is looking forward to having Karandy on his team.

“Our selection team, including a wide array of constituents, unanimously supported Mr. Karandy’s candidacy for this position,” Chandler said. “He is a natural fit: affable, competent, and enthusiastic. It’s a testament to our school system that we can add someone of Steve’s caliber to our team. I can’t wait for him to join us, and I know our parents, students and staff will be happy to have him here as well.”
