Mohonasen, in partnership with MVP Health Care and National Fitness Campaign (NFC), opened an outdoor Fitness Court on the Mohonasen High School campus. The fitness court at Mohonasen became the first to open on a high school campus in the Capital District. Branded with the traditional Mohonasen orange and black, the court will provide the campus and district residents with increased access to outdoor exercise programs.
This Fitness Court was developed to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. The Fitness Court allows people to use their body weight to complete a workout using seven exercise stations.
Superintendent Shannon Shine commented, “It’s one thing to proclaim your support for a positive culture of health and wellness, and it’s another thing to intentionally create new opportunities for that culture to flourish. The Fitness Court allows students, staff and local residents free, accessible outdoor fitness opportunities.”
“I’d like to publicly thank MVP Health Care and the National Fitness Campaign for supporting this initiative, one which highlights Mohonasen’s commitment to fostering lifelong healthy habits. We are ‘Mohon Proud’ to offer this innovative resource for our community,” he added.
During the opening event, Athletic Director, Matthew Ronca, demonstrated each station to students and staff.
The court is created for individuals 14 and older with all abilities and fitness levels in mind, the workouts are adaptable, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
Mohonasen is one of 27 outdoor Fitness Courts in a series of MVP Health Care Fitness Courts, joining the growing network across the state.
