The School Counselor Mission is to align with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model. It is vital for school counselors to consult, communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders invested in student success. The goal is to implement a K-12 comprehensive program promoting an academic, career and person/social development for all students starting in elementary school.
The Elementary School Counselors at Mohonasen participate in professional training and staff development to maintain a quality comprehensive School Counseling Program. Pinewood’s Comprehensive School Counseling Program
3-5 School-Wide Programs
- Character Education: Classroom Guidance Lessons in all classrooms taught or presentations on the Pinewood Scoop about the character theme for that month. Additionally, the Pinewood Character Counts members work together to recognize students demonstrating the character words. We also organize monthly activities about the word that all students are invited to participate in.
- New Student Program: This program is designed to help new students adjust to being in their new school.
3-5 Support Services
- Support Groups: A variety of groups are offered to help students who may need to build skills in a specific area. Some group topics may include but are not limited to Social Skills, Friendship, Anger Management, Stress Reduction, Transition to middle school lunch groups.
- School-Based Counseling: Individual school-based counseling is available. School-based counseling is a short term support service available to students during the school day.
3-5 Comprehensive Guidance Lessons
In third grade, students will learn career development, goal setting, safety and problem-solving/coping skills. In fourth grade, students will continue to learn about career development, goal setting and safety and also begin learning about tolerance. In fifth grade, students continue work in career development, goal setting and safety, and also begin learning about anti-bullying and internet safety.
