High school students taking entrepreneurship, an offered business elective at Mohonasen, competed in their first-ever business pitch competition. Students created their own businesses and pitched them to “investors” to try and sell their idea. They designed a business model, marketing strategy, operating plan and competitive analysis outlining a comparison of their business to their competitors.
Mohonasen staff and visiting SUNY Schenectady professors, business professor Matthew Farron and accounting professor Mykhael Wilson, walked around hearing each pitch. The investors then graded them on professionalism, idea, pitch and business knowledge. After, investors decided if they were in or out!
The entrepreneurship class is worth college credit for students who choose to enroll. The shark tank event was created by business teacher and National Business Honor Society advisor, Rochelle Obie, who hopes to compete in a similar event at SUNY Schenectady against Schenectady High next year.
